School class in Lakar, East Tibet

Background

In the eighties compulsory education was abolished in China. In 2001 the government decided on a fusion of primary schools. The school in Lakar was closed, meaning that children from Lakar can now only visit a boarding school far away.

Lakar Class Project

Initiated by Sogyal Rinpoche 45 school children from his hometown Lakar are supported to receive six years of primary education at a state school. At Rongbatsa Junior School in Kham, East Tibet, the 5- to 15-year-olds are put together in the Lakar Class.

The state provides them with education, teaching material, as well as the rooms. But their food and clothing,, which amount to about € 23.-per month, per child are not provided for.

Chindak would like to help pay for these costs. With the support of our partner organisation, Tibet Foundation, we ensure that donated moneys will arrive at the precise place they are intended for.

The six year primary school programme is the basis for attending higher schooling or job training.

With your donation you help ensure the future of this children.
