Old People’s Home, Dhondenling / South India

In July 2001 an old people’s home for especially needy refugees from Tibet was completed in the refugee camp of Dhondenling. It is set up to accommodate 32 inhabitants and comprises 16 rooms for two persons each, bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room and a small office. Presently 17 women and 15 men are living here, who were chosen according to their personal needs by representatives of the Tibetan exile government.

To date we have successfully managed to improve the living conditions of the old people in the home, by at least ensuring that their basic needs are being met. The inhabitants receive three meals a day and medical care once a week.

The project

Even though the erection and furnishing
of the building could be successfully
completed, it is still uncertain how
the ongoing daily costs will be met, especially
food and medical care for the inhabitants
which amounts to about € 80.- per person
and month.
Some further smaller acquisitions for the
home are also necessary.
